Hi,
I've done the Sydney/Cairnes/Sydney trip with my parents a twice when I was a teenager.
Once was just by car staying in onsite vans on the way up and back.
Once was in my grandfather's ford wagon towing his caravan.
Both times we enjoyed the trip, seeing the cane trains and cane cutting and visited a sugar mill.
Once we drove out to Chillago to walk through the limestone caves similar to Janolan.
Also did the Green Island boat daytrip.
On the car trip, we got stuck between Mackay and Rockhampton when we got to a flooded river and when we turned back, the river we just passed was also flooded, so we spent two nights in the car waiting for the flooding to subside.
On the caravan trip we had to spend 3 days in Mackay due to flooded rivers so the time was spent in the local playing pool all day.
Very fond memories and loved every day of the trips, as I am sure your daughter did on yours.
