how high is to high

Postby coffenup » Sun Jan 25, 2009 10:39 pm

Here's a question to open a hornets nest
How high a suspenion can be before the 4wd becomes to unstable to be 100% usable both on road & off road. I have a 50 mm lift on my patrol/maverick. A friend of mine with 100 series cruiser has a 100 mm lift and I feel his car rides like a boat it feels like it wallows around coners & off road

When I was looking into lifts the ARB centre said anything over a 2 inch lift is more unstable and needs and engineers cert, he actually said going higher than 2 inches was not worth the extra hassles that come with it in his opinion. Don;t know if that exactly answers your question though..lol.

Any more than 2' I reckon lifts the centre of gravity too high.

i have always lifted my Patrols 50mm using Old Man Emu springs and shocks. It handles all towing requirements and off road work in a very safe ,stable and
efficient mannor.I would not go over 50mm as i dont think it is required for the majority of offroad and towing duties.

[font=Comic Sans MS]I feel higher suspension is great for off road if you want to start going to extremes. But the higher you go the more challenging tracks you have to look for. I have mine at 3 inches now and its starting to get a little rolley polley on the corners. But I guess if I reconnect the swaybars this would fix this problem. All the 4WDs ive had in the past have only ever been lifted 2 inches and to be honest this height gets you to most places quite well. All you have to do is pick the right wheel placement on the harder tracks.
So if I were doing it over again i would only bother going the 2 inches as the ride is better and there is no hassels with engineering.

Just my opinion though. Everyone has their own opinoin.

Good to get an opinion from someone that has tried both sides. Thanks Admin.
